Outlook rule save message to file
So, it becomes difficult for users to locate the desired messages. Also, some users prefer to keep sent emails at a specific location to track and access them easily. To avoid such scenarios, it is advisable to move sent items to a specific folder. So, we are here trying to provide some basic solutions using the Outlook interface to move sent emails in Outlook mailbox to a specific folder automatically in order to perform the data management. There are two manual methods available within the Outlook that allow you to move sent emails to a specific folder.
Here we have described both the methods in detail. The process of moving sent items to a specific folder can be achieved by creating a new rule in MS Outlook. Follow the below steps to know the process in detail.
To finish the settings completely, click OK. I don't want to set up shared mailboxes for each project because I frankly don't want to have over 1, shared mailboxes and the never ending maintenance of archiving and deleting finished project mailboxes while opening new mailboxes for new projects. GORT I don't think rules will work because email from one external email address may pertain to one of several active projects with the same client and I can't figure out how to make a rule "If in this subfolder copy to local folder XZY".
I just saw that today, thanks to another post. I did find a couple VBS scripts that can be combined with rules to save to a location, but the whole rule thing gets in the way because internal users might be working on 5 different projects from 5 different clients, or they might have 1 client with 5 projects There is no way a rule will properly sort emails into the proper folders, human sorting of the emails is going to be required.
I don't think I'm selling this idea to management properly I looked at demos of the products above and I just don't see how they're any better or faster or easier than drag and drop -- but they are integrated into Outlook. You can do this using VBA, there are many code samples available if you google "outlook vba save email to folder" or similar.
The code can be triggered manually e. Im sure the advice given was on the premise that this was for A project or at most a handful. From the comments of your President, it doesn't sound like he is going to be happy with using exchange to manage projects if he thinks dragging and dropping is too much of a burden and error prone of a practice, how can he expect users to correctly type in a 6 digit project ID in the CC field?
And regarding your most recent posts about multiple users juggling 5 projects at a time, has your company considered that it needs a project management app? Sorry this isn't addressing your question of "how do I accomplish this using Outlook" but sometimes as IT professionals, we are asked to to a build the space shuttle by using parts from the old ford pickup in the parking lot I'm guessing this is still an open case?
It worked for me as well with some minor modifications. Did you notice you aren't using strdate you've assigned here? Sign up or log in Sign up using Google.

Featured on Meta. New post summary designs on greatest hits now, everywhere else eventually. This script saves me a lot of time. Hi this worked great the first day with setting up the rule, however it won't work now even if I open up the rule and make it run. I tried deleting and recreating the rule but didn't fix it.
I have created 3 modules and 3 rules for different application emails containing reports that run each day. I'm not sure what to tell you, ozlozza. You could try deleting all of the modules and recreating them.
I'm far from an expert on Outlook VBA. Hi, this works alright, but the attachments are not deleted from the mails. This does not help in my case. How to auto-delete the attachment inside the mail? Thank you so much!! This will save me so much time!!
I just ran it on message already in my Inbox and it worked beautifully. Now, is there a way to automatically delete messages or move them to deleted items as they arrive instead of just copying them to a folder? In the Rules Wizard, where you click the action to "run a script", also select to "move it to the specified folder". Then select the "Deleted Items" folder in the lower half of that window.
Note: I tried simply using the action "delete it" but that didn't work. I suspect that Outlook deleted the email before it tried to run the script. However, should will work just as well. Ben, wow, thanks for the quick reply! I apologize; I didn't specify that my question was related to a different task. Essentially, most of the messages I send copy a distribution list of which I am also a part , so the message is in my sent mail and also my inbox.
It drives me crazy when I send a message then have to delete it because it appears in my inbox as a new message as soon as I send it. I've tried rules for deleting or moving messages when I am in the sender's address and I've tried to create my own macro but failed miserably as I am definitely no VBA pro and they still go to my inbox.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Sorry for this unrelated post. And thanks once again for your original macro!! I researched your question and found an easy way to accomplish this.
I thought it may be useful to others, so I wrote about it. Let me know if you have any questions. I don't know what Bitcoins are, but I will investigate because I definitely owe you! Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
For some reason it does not work for me. Is there any workaround? Attachments objAtt. I got the same error message as Ravis, so I tried the code change that Dazza recommended.
I created a temp folder on my C: drive, created the Outlook rule, and it is still not working. I am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. Does that have any impact? Additionally, the rule I set up looks like:.
I don't have Outlook in front of me, but I think you need to put the code in "Module 1" or something similar.
